Munkebo

Munkebo
Munkebo is beautifully situated between Odense Inlet and Kertinge Cove. Munkebo can also be called the town of the ships. Some of the world's biggest ships are built at the Lindø Shipyard.

Around Munkebo Town Centre you find a large number of shops, swimming bath and sport centre with bowling.

Go on a picnic and enjoy the view from Munke Bakke (Hill) and visit Munkebo Minitown at Bakkely 50, exact copies of the old Munkebo fishing village from before 1959.

On the meadow at Syvstjernen: The medieval marketplace. Along the north coast, until 1960, the ancient berths for barges and other small vessels were placed. Of the coast bigger ships could anchor for loading or unloading. But the place at the end of a long, narrow inlet was not in itself protection enough, and for further safeguard against the Wends (Vikings from North Germany) a blocking by under-water poles had been made from coast to coast. The remainder of an ancient rampart along the west coast has presumably been a corresponding shelter of Munkebo from the land side.
