Monuments

Kerteminde is rich of monuments and statues which are conneted ot their own histories.

Take a trip of experience in the streets of the town and discover the manu monuments and learn more about Kerteminde's history. You can read mores about the monuments in the following.

You find "3 Sail" by Kerteminde Rowing Club. It is made by Sv. Aage Christensen from Fejø and was presented 10/9 1999. It is manufactured at Lindø apprentice school.


Double statue of Johannes Larsen and Frits Syberg

In autumn 2006 on Nordre Kirkerist, at the side of the parish church, a statue of the two great artists  of the town, Johannes Larsen (1867-1961) and Fritz Syberg (1862-1939), created by local sculptor Bjørn Nordahl, was unveiled.

Johannes Larsen and Fritz Syberg both belonged to the Funen School of painters, which achieved their true artistic breakthrough in Denmark at the beginning of the 1900s. When Fritz Syberg moved to Kerteminde, where Johannes Larsen already lived, the town became a driving artistic force in Denmark for a couple of decades.
Both artists are very well represented at the Johannes Larsen Museum in Kerteminde.


The Football Players

A bronze sculpture representing two boys playing football. Size: 180 x 62, executed by Keld Moseholm Jørgensen.

The statue was erected in 1973 at the Sports Hall.


Monument for those Killed on April 9 1940

A monument erected by the members of "The Danish Ex-service-men's League" on November 6th 1948 in memory of those killed on april 9th 1940 and in the fredom struggle for Denmark 1940-45.

The monument stands at the harbour facing Tornøes Hotel.


Bust representing Frederik Paludan Müller

Frederik Paludan Müller was an author and perhaps best known for his novel in verse "Adam Homo". His father was a vicar in Kerteminde.

He was born in February 7 1809 and 100 years after the bust was erected. It was executed by professor H. Stein in bronze. Size: 100 x 80.

The bust is placed by the bridge.


Memorial Tablet on the House, Langegade 4

The post of "Adam Homo", Frederik Paludan Müller, was born in Langegade 4 on February 7 1809. The memorial tablets was set up on December 6 1941, the centenary of the publication of his monumental work.

Memorial tablet for the Municipal Charter

In the hall of the library a memorial tablet is to be found on the wall with the inscription:

Erik, Duke of Pomerania, King of Denmark, Norway and Sweden granted Kerteminde a municipal charter on December 7 1413.


Memorial Tablet on the Southern Wall of the Parish Church

A marble tablet with the inscription: Here lies Maria Benedikte, formerly Rosenstand-Goiske, born in 1775, dead 1830 and her mother Anne Christine Rosenstand-Goiske, formerly Kieruld, born in 1746 and dead 1805. 

Fiskergade - Tværgade

Consul E. B. Muus monument for deserving poor seamen and their dependents, 1880.

Memorial Tablet by the Church Emaus

Ole Henrik Svane lived here from 1814 - 1825 and he worked for the blessing of Christian life in Kerteminde and its neighbourhood.

The "Valgmenigheden" erected the monument in memory of him.


Sculpture by the School

Sedentary statue in bronze representing a young girl, 150 x 90, executed by Keld Moseholm Jørgensen.

Erected on the occasion of the 75 years' jubilee in 1976.


Monument by the "Nordre Havnekaj"

"The Marineforeningen" erected this monument in memory of 22 men from Kerteminde, who died the death of a hero with Ivar Hvidtfeldt on board the ship Dannebrog during the sea battle in the bay of Køge on October 4th 1710. 

12. By the Marina Restaurant

At the southern end of the Marina restaurant stands a submarine mine from WWI. It is erected by "The Marineforeningen" and is used as a "savings box". The money from the mine are used as support for sailors' widows.  

A Bronze Bust of J. Christmas Møller

J. Christmas Møller (1894 - 1948), 60 X 50, By Gudmundsen- Holmgren.

Christmas Møller was a menber of the Folketing (The Danish Parliament) an was nominated as a candidate for the Folketing in the constituency of Kerteminde for the Conservative Party.


A Sculpture of Playing Children

In the "Kildeanlægget" by Møllebakken stands a bronze sculpture representing two playing children.

A Monument at the Northern End of the North Beach

At Kikkenborg stands a large granite stone in memory of the Dutch landing in Kerteminde. The Dutch came to our assistance during the Swedish War on October 31st 1659.

Hans Schack, de Reyter and Henrik Bielke dislodged the Swedish troops from Kerteminde.

A pair of riding boots and the sword which belonged to one of the fighting Danes are to be found in the Parish Church.  


16. Tombstone with bust in the Old Grave Yard

The grave of the painter, Johannes Larsen. On the stone there is a bronze burst of a very beautiful , young woman. It is the painter's wife, Alhed Larsen, formerly Warberg. She lived from 1872 - 1927. Furthermore it says on the stone: Johannes Larsen 1867 - 1961, Andreas Larsen ( his son ) 1899 - 1953.

17. Tombstone in the New Grave Yard

In the new grave yard at Kristine Rudesvej there is a beautiful tombstone , crowned by a bronze urn. The stone is erected by citizens in Kerteminde. The inscription says that it is a monument for private soldier No. 305, 2nd artillery regimnet, Hans Chr. Hansen, born on February 18 1920, killed on April 9 1940 in Haderslev.

18. Husflidhøjskolen ( "The High School of Arts and Crafts")

At the right side of the drive stands "The mask" on a granite pedestal. It is executed by the scupltor Monica Poulsen, inspired by the Greek mythologi. "The mask" is supposed to protect people against evil spirits. Erected in 1970.

19. Husflidhøjskolen

In the middle of the green area stands a statue, executed by the sculptor Harald Isenstein. It represents a mother with her child on her arm. Erected in 1970.

Granite Sculpture - Tulip Bud

At the town hall, Hans Schacksvej, stands a fountain/granite sculpture representing a tulip bud.

It is executed by the Northern Funish artist, Mogens Rhyl-Svendsen and erected in 1984.


Fishermen

The Fishermen are two sculptures which are presented at Hindsholmvej.

The sculptures are carried out by Allan Bo Jensen.
